Stephen Ojiambo Wandera, PhD, focuses his research on vulnerable populations in Uganda: older persons, children, and families. Among the aging population, he examines inequalities in health and healthcare access for older persons in Uganda, while also exploring social determinants of health for older persons across sub-Saharan Africa.

His recent work includes a 2021 scoping review of "Cognitive Stimulation Therapy for older people with Dementia in Africa" and leadership of Uganda's first survey on ageism against older persons (2018-2019), which sparked diverse policy dialogues. As a CARTA re-entry grantee (2017-2018), he investigated the "Determinants of HIV Testing among older persons in Uganda." His PhD research (2012-2016) examined "Disparities in health and access to healthcare among older persons in Uganda."

Regarding women and children, Stephen has investigated violence against these populations and parent-child communication about sexual and reproductive health. Moving forward, he aims to use experimental and intervention research designs to address the health needs of older persons in Africa, investigate violence against men and boys, and design interventions for addressing violence against women and children through experimental studies.

Stefano  is the founder and CEO of Carevocacy, an AgeTech startup launched in 2020 to close the digital literacy gap for older adults. Drawing on personal experience as a caregiver to his grandmother with Alzheimer’s, he developed a platform offering private tech tutoring, group classes, and Apo—an AI-powered SMS digital health literacy coach.

Under Stefano’s leadership, Carevocacy has empowered over 23,000 learners across 30 locations and partnered with organizations like Humana and senior living communities.

Daneika was born and raised in Bowling Green, Kentucky. She learned at a young age how to be a helper for her mother, who gave birth to her sister, and then twins followed a year after her sister was born.

Daneika also helped her mom with a family-owned 24/7 child daycare center. She watched her grandmother care for the seniors in her family and picked up nurturing skills from her as well. God has gifted her with a passion for caring for others, and it is definitely in her DNA. Caring for others is her purpose.

In 2004 Daneika became a professional caregiver, where she obtained State Tested Nursing Assistant certification. Since then, she hasn’t stopped caring for others. Daneika was a hard name for people she cared for to pronounce, so she asked people to call her DD. She worked at a rehabilitation hospital (where people go after surgery), skilled nursing homes, a home health company, hospice, and memory care. She is currently managing the daily operations of a premier 24-bed skilled nursing facility.
